This Award is presented within school districts throughout Montgomery County. The award recognizes the outstanding achievement of educators who teach Texas History at the 4th and/or 7th grade levels.  We offer two first place awards - one for the 4th grade teacher of the year, and one for the 7th grade teacher of the year.  The winners shall be determined on a weighted score completed by the Board of the Lone Star Chapter.  The scale is as follows:

A.  25% of the score shall be from website voting.  The students are encouraged to visit our website to select the Texas History Educator of their choice;

B.  25% of the score shall be determined from peers within the school system via letter, emails, or other nominations they might send in to us;

C.  50% of the score shall be determined solely by the Lone Star Chapter board members and shall be based on extracurricular activities, teacher web site quantity and quality, room decorations, and other "above and beyond" teaching methods and requirements the educator elects to use.

TEXAS HISTORY PLAY

As stated above, the Lone Star chapter will also present the school which employs the winning teacher with a history play put on by Bob Heinonen from www.TexasHeroes.net.  Bob has been doing this for a long time and gives an outstanding performance.  Feel free to visit his website for details.

The LSSRT firmly believes our schools are the beginning to embed our history in our children.   We also understand teaching can sometimes be a thankless job at minimal salary - though it could be easily argued that it is the single-most important job in preserving our history and promoting the future.
